The Saturday Worlds Update

Hello it's Sylvie. There is a new update called worlds. 99 new worlds have been added to the game.

You will find that there is a new option on the title screen. You can select this option if you have completed the original world with all Hands of the Clock, or if you just feel like it.

This option leads to an area where you can type in a sequence of symbols. Each sequence corresponds to a world with certain properties.

The worlds have a Rank (difficulty setting) so that in some worlds, it will be harder to find shrooms and items and memories compared to the original world. And some worlds have something called Shroom Shuffle which mixes up which shrooms appear in which zones.

Each world has its own distinct save file and they shouldn't interfere with each other. Options and controls are shared across worlds but progress in the worlds is separate. You can switch between worlds freely and your progress in each world should always be preserved.

Go and explore the worlds.

There are also a lot of bug fixes and little changes in this update.

Major Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a serious saving bug. If you opened the pause menu and went into the options menu, it would load some data from your save file. This could cause things you did between the time you entered the room and the time you accessed the options to get mysteriously overwritten!
  • Fixed a bug where objects sometimes didn't spawn in zones if the room layout was weird. This was not that bad in the normal world, because I think it only affected a small handful of rare shrooms and items. But in other worlds, it could have potentially caused memories to not spawn!
  • Hopefully fixed a bug where items spawn in the wrong places if you die and respawn mid-screen-transition. The fix is that if you're doing a screen transition, it will wait until you finish to respawn you. Also, if you manage to bring up the pause menu during a screen transition, it will block you from selecting options until the transition finishes.

Other Changes

  • The player starts out standing on top of a Basic Shroom now because its cute.
  • I think I made some small changes to the distribution of rare items and rare shrooms in the standard world. I can't really remember.
  • Placements of shrooms, items, doors, memories, etc. within rooms will be slightly different, because I changed how the randomization of these works to make it identical across platforms (I think).
  • Fixed a minor bug in the title menu, where pressing Escape while in the "Reset the world" menu would go back too far.
  • Added a "Memory Air Bonus" option to the Playful Options. This affects how much bonus max air you get from finding a memory. You can increase it from 3 to 5 or 10, decrease it to 1, or switch it off completely for a gamer-challenge.
  • I changed the Extreme Air Drain rate in the Playful Options to 3x. First it was 2x, then I changed it to 4x, now it's 3x because 4x seemed too fast. I haven't really tried a playthrough with 3x or 4x so I don't know.
  • Hopefully fixed an issue where when you throw mushrooms downward near the bottom of a screen, sometimes they would just bounce up through you, instead of letting you ride on them.
  • Made it so when you throw a mushroom downwards, and you are not holding the jump button, your horizontal speed will be cut down if it's above a certain threshold. This is so that you can ride mushrooms that you throw downwards without slipping off as easily, but if you use a mushroom for a jump-boost instead of riding it, it won't cut your speed. Previously, your horizontal speed was not affected at all when you throw things downwards. I am not sure if this is a good physics change! Let me know if it is more horrible than the previous version.
  • Adjusted the behaviour for when you press down to fall through an item, because I was having some issues falling through items while riding them. You get a slight downwards speed boost to help you fall. You still can't really fall completely through an item that you are riding downwards, but I think it's okay.
  • Tried to prevent rapid flickering between NPCs/interactables when you are standing on top of multiple of them.
  • I think I fixed a bug involving being able to die on the same frame that you interact with an object, but it's hard to be sure. Also, I am a little worried I broke something else in the process, let me know if anything is suddenly weird about NPC interactions.
  • Reduced the maximum delay before respawning from 5 seconds to 3 seconds. The maximum delay only applies if you are in motion while dead, otherwise it uses a shorter delay of 1 second.
  • The cursor on Mac now maintains its position when you switch rooms.
  • The minecart level can now completed without using the mouse (I think this was always possible on Windows and Linux but not Mac due to the Mac-exclusive cursor code).
  • Fixed various bugs involving the Museum and the Boombox, including a game crash. Also, now when you return to the entrance in the museum, you do not lose your inventory contents. You can have a lot of fun duplicating items like this (when inside the museum only).
  • The Museum signs now display a completion count (how many items you've found. out of the total for the room).

Wow

I think now that there are worlds, the "Content" of the game is final. Tomorrow, and on Monday, I will test the new worlds some more, and I will focus on bug fixes and minor tweaks instead of adding new things. Then the game will be released!!
